The Stranger Project is a long-term photographic project. Through archival photography of several camps where labor immigrants live in North Asia. Zhang re-organized the labor immigrants’ objects to construct some anti-utopia scenes about the disordered flow of labor migration. There are no characters shown in his pictures, but the objects’ context revealed the individual’s forgotten memories in the immigrants’ wave. Zhang also explores the hiding connection between individuals’ history and memories with the urbanization process in North Asia.
